In July 2019 the political scientists Nicolás Barbieri and Yunailis Salazar published the study “Equity in cultural policies. Case study with participatory research methodology“, with the collaboration of the Centre for Cultural Studies and Resources (CERC) of the Diputació de Barcelonal and the Institute of Government and Public Policy (IGOP) of the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona.
The study was carried out by applying a participatory research methodology at te local level, with the participation of the cities of Sabadell, El Prat de Llobregat, Igualada and Tiana. It has identified the main obstacles to achieve broad cultural participation, in order to propose recommendations for public policies to support access to and participation in culture.
The authors emphasize the need for city councils to address the issue of inequality in their cultural policies in order to guarantee that citizens have equal access and opportunities to cultural life and cultural rights.
