This visitor’s guide was prepared for the “Latin American Cartographies” exhibition held in Belgium in 2017.

The exhibition provides a unique perspective of the contribution that the arts make in countering and responding to the current rapid and disorderly urban growth in Latin America which, if not correctly tackled, will only lead to widespread social inequality, violence, environmental destruction and a lack of engagement by the communities. It researches and showcases connections between social facts and artistic expressions, aiming to raise the awareness of the public as to the positive role of art in fostering of social cohesion in contemporary urban societies.

“Latin American Cartographies” is the result of the “Culture and Arts Supporting Social Cohesion in Latin American Cities – LAIC” project, a transcultural artistic crossover project between Latin America and Europe, developed by Interarts and BOZAR and funded by the European Commission.
