The Final Conference of the SouthMed WiA project, Towards greater gender equality: Promoting the role and image of women in the Southern Mediterranean audiovisual Sector, will take place in Casablanca on the 11th and 12th of July.
The SouthMed WiA project (2017-2019), implemented by a consortium of European and southern Mediterranean organisations, is led by Interarts and co-funded by the European Union under the Med Film regional programme. The idea of the project arose from the observation of an existing gender inequality, of a perpetuation of stereotypes and of the lack of representation of women in the audiovisual sector in the Southern Mediterranean region: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
The Final Conference, hosted by the Instituto Cervantes in Casablanca, will address the main topics that have been developed throughout the project: gender inequality in the audiovisual industry from a professional point of view, and the influence on the configuration of socio-cultural representations through the image of women vehicle by the sector. Also, the network of professional women in the audiovisual sector in the southern Mediterranean will be launched, as the first in the region and a great opportunity for future collaborations.
